Optics for the Very Large Telescope (VLT) installed at the top of the Cerro Paranal in Chili. Sagem polished the four 8m primary mirrors with unrivalled precision of 8nm. This is equivalent to smoothing the surface of the city of Paris to less than 0.01mm! Sagem also provided the following: the 1.12m Beryllium secondary mirrors, the M4 to M8 mirrors of the coudé beams, Cat's Eye Telescope optics for the interferometric beam, the set of cylinders and the control electronics. Sagem provided the entire core of this amazing observatory.
